The OpenHack Format

We have a little structure around our meetings to give people a chance to speak, bounce ideas off others, and “break the ice” for anyone who hasn’t met before. We are loosely adopting a structure that has worked well for other OpenHack meetups.

  • 6:00 – Meet at iHub
  • 6:15 – Standup Introductions – Please share who you are, and what you do.
  • 6:30 – Hack!
  • 8:30 – Wrap-Up
  • 9:00 – Doors close (or do they?)

We’ll begin with introductions at 6:15. Just say who you are, what you do and where you do it (if you want to), what languages/frameworks you work with, and anything else you want to share. This is just to let everybody get to know each other and see who does what so others can help/pair with them, or ask for help if you know something they don’t.

Next is the hack session. This is what OpenHack is all about – slingin’ code. That’s 2 hours. You can pair up with somebody or work totally alone – it’s totally up to you. We encourage you to pair just for the fun of it, but nobody’s going to even -remotely- have a problem if you don’t.

You can hack on anything you want. Open source, closed source. Work. Play. Any skill level on anything on any project, it’s all good as long as you’re here to sling code.

For more details, visit OpenHack, or follow @OpenHackLVL on Twitter for more details.

  • You can hack on anything! Any language, framework, public/open-source, personal, etc.
  • Skill level doesn’t matter. We don’t care if you’re working on Hello World or on increasing your wizarding level.
  • You don’t have to have an idea to hack on! You’re more than welcome to come just to pair with someone.

FAQs

Is there a cost to this event?

No, I’m using Eventbrite in an attempt to track attendance.  Plus, they have iOS passbook integration.  🙂

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

No.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Reach out to @OpenHackLVL with questions!

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, tickets are only used to estimate event attendance.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay?

Yup.  See the previous question.

Do I have to get a ticket to come?

While I’d love for you to get a ticket (helps with planning), you are still welcome to come without one!
